KID SISTER
Melissa Young, between working a plethora of retail shifts and wedging a toehold in the world of cinema, spent her youth as a recognizable personality on the Chicago house scene. With a brother in the internationally famous DJ team Flosstradamus, stunning looks and wits beyond her years, she was positioned well for her own musical endeavors, though her approachable attitude distinguished her from the average club diva. In 2005 she began her rap career as Kid Sister, and in 2007 she had her first single “Control,” produced by XXXChange (Spank Rock) released through Fool’s Gold. Her 2009 album Ultraviolet on Downtown Records hit 20 on the AllmusicUS Top Rap Album charts, and featured many other genre-benders including Kanye West and Cee-Lo Green.

Kid Sister’s producers have also included A-Trak and Sinden, meaning her beats are friendly to clubgoers and hip-hop heads alike. “I think that even if you're making music that's a little bit different, everyone should be included,” Young says. “I used to be the fat girl, and I'm biracial, so I know how it feels to be something that's other-and it doesn't feel good. “ Neo-disco and rave textures are prominent in the mix, but Young’s raps take center stage. Lyrically understated and rhythmically inclined, her style could land her a spot as the third Cool Kid or the first Beastie Girl. She already owns the Chicago scene, and her headlining gig at Santos Party House will be a milestone for both her and New York’s hungry party people.

D.I.M.
No subgenre of dance music is safe from D.I.M.’s pan-electronica amalgamations. At the forefront are the drum and bass lines, hinting at dubstep, built beneath sly techno grooves. Few can match the finesse with which he switches up his drops, incorporating techno and trance elements, and keeping the dancefloor guessing. Boasting prominent remixes for Fischerspooner, Jape and Teenage Bad Girl, he currently is repping Berlin’s Boys Noize label.

Resident FIXED DJ’s Josh Houtkin and Dave Pianka are insidious masterminds of programming and promotion with knowledge of dancefloor dynamics unmatched by any other team in the metropolis. Now they're bringing us the weekly party New York has been waiting for, on the only sound system that can do it justice.

Named “Best New Party” by the L Magazine, Discovery is a “fun first” party dedicated to electronica-based neo-disco. Bright, bassy and fancy-free, the party combines the funky aesthetic of the 70’s with techno and synth-pop. Resident DJ’s VDRK and Free Magic are mix virtuosos who hold down one of the best crowds in nightlife history.

Joining them for the night is U-Tern, producer of intricate electro-disco whose influence comes from the origins of disco and early house, the likes of Jellybean Benitez, Gap Band and Prince. His technique, however, is straight futuristic, splicing whirlwind synth lines with complex broken beats. Aside from his brilliantoriginal production, his remixes and edits have earned him a loved spot in the scene, and he takes especially well to classic, soulful material (his Marvin Gaye mix is off the chain).

ANDREW W.K.
The recent wave of interviews, articles, and even a town hall-style meeting, was an attempt by Andrew W.K. to combat the bizarre controversies and conspiracy theories that surrounded his identity. But ultimately, nothing has proven more effective to certify his authenticity than his recent critically lauded and explosive musical performances. Shortly before returning to full-ensemble rock shows and the US release of his “lost third album” Close Calls With Brick Walls, he turned heads with 55 Cadillac, an LP of improvised solo piano performance released on Thurston Moore’s Ecstatic Peace label. Dynamic, diverse and technically flawless, the album is the product of a lifetime’s mastery of the instrument and an anthemic aesthetic that made Andrew W.K. an international superstar. After a string of highly publicized SXSW shows, he will be returning to the solo instrumental format at Santos Party House.

MON KHMER
The Berklee-trained quintet Mon Khmer create ethereal, groove-based and layered indie rock without the effects overdoses and computer-generated “lo-fi” sounds that are dominating the scene. Despite bucking the trends, they have earned praise from BrooklynVegan, Stylecaster, Dummymag (UK) and The L Magazine, who calls them “heavy and dense, but in the best possible way - you can pick up something different with each listen.” Their harmonized guitar riffs tumble into space-age synths and pulsing drums that maintain danceable, head-nodding rhythms.

ROADSIDE GRAVES
For Roadside Graves, art imitates death. The theme of mortality rules the lyrics of John Gleason, whose seven-piece ensemble includes a farfisa and banjo and features a heavy, country fried twang and gospel harmonies. Of their 2009 LP My Son’s Home, Pitchork says, “There are moments of haunting, fragile stillness here...Perhaps most admirably of all, the Roadside Graves excel at the brave and difficult paradox of suffusing death with life, injecting vivacity and humor into their reflections on mortality.”

DERADORIAN
As the bassist for the Dirty Projectors, Angel Deradoorian has already earned a reputation for clever, unsettling pop music. Her psychedelic side project is a foray into the dark side, buoyed by instrumentalism in the realms of folk and electronica, capped with a vocal range that easily slides from subdued to booming.

Bronx-born spitter Mickey Factz graced the covers of XXL as a "rapper to watch in '09". But over the year, as his fan base grew, he hung back and kept a low profile. We soon found out that this was a tactical move: On New Year's Day 2010, he dropped an experimental mixtape as the first part of his #Alpha series. The mixtape, called The Dark Pheonix, showcases left-field beats, guests musicians such as Pheonix, and of course, his lyrical double dutch. Unlike a lot of emerging hip hop artists, Mickey's rhymes boast both swagger and intellect. His songs are dense and meaty... a refreshing break from bubble-gum rap that relies on airhorns and "ayyyy's". If Dark Pheonix is an early indicator of the year Mickey is about to have, we're all ears.

On April 1st, he will be joined by hometown heroes Telephoned. This dynamic duo was born one night in Brooklyn when DJ/producer Sammy Bananas (Fool's Gold) and singer/party starter Maggie Horn (Good Peoples) decided to record their own version of T-Pain's "Can't Believe It." Their track was neither remix nor cover - instead, the duo fashioned a postmodern take on both, warping the original beat into a hypnotic club track and bringing out the dreamy qualities only hinted at in Pain's auto-tuned melodies. Whether morphing Ron Browz "Pop Champagne" into a spacey dancefloor gem ("Bottle service electro meets Triplets Of Belleville" says Ms Horn), dubstepping "Turn My Swag On," or re-imagining DJ Webstar's "Dancin On Me" as a BK funky anthem, these Telephoned covers are instantly addictive and massively charming.

Also on deck is Brooklyn-based producer, Machinedrum. He has been crafting beats for the most exciting emerging electro acts in the city, and showcases them through his famous CassetteNYC parties. His style is a mixture of "instrumental hip hop, soul-stylin’, vintage synths and rich, structured glitchiness." He is joined by BET’s 106th and Park favorite, Jesse Boykins III. This 24-year-old soulster rides the consummate balance between experimental electro-soul and commercial R&B.

When the promotional duo FIXED sets up shop at Santos Party House, what occurs are some of the most unspeakably raucous parties New York City has ever witnessed. Those who were misfortunate enough to miss their Basement Jaxx or Boys Noize nights have hopefully overcome the guilt and shame, and will now have a chance to redeem themselves to their dancing shoes. Resident FIXED DJ’s Josh Houtkin and Dave Pianka are insidious masterminds of programming and promotion with knowledge of dancefloor dynamics unmatched by any other team in the metropolis. With a couple ill one-offs and a residency in the works for Santos Party House, they have hitched (fixed?) their star to the city’s most noted soundsystem.

AEROPLANE
Javelo, the Brussels-raised duo consisting of Stephen Fasano & Vito De Luca, were burning along nicely in Europe, their production grace shining on numerous 12” most notably “Spleen” and their famous remix of Thomas Sari’s “Tom Hustler.” But they were dissatisfied that their lifelong dedication to multi-instrumentalism had not taken a more prominent role. So they regrouped in 2007, naming themselves Aeroplane as a dig against the bass-obsessed electro scene and as a statement that airy, spaced-out composition was to be the key element of their sound.

Continuing their 12” spree, Aeroplane unleashed charting original jams, like the brutally infectious disco-psych smash “Pacific Air Race,” as well as heavily rotated official remixes for Grace Jones, MGMT and Sebastien Tellier to name a few. Their DJ sets are as seamlessly arranged as their tracks, blending in the best of house and electro with the more esoteric feels of balaeric, italo and trance. MixMag named them the #1 breakthrough of 2009, and they have become highly demanded festival acts, appearing at the gigantic European Creamfield and Parklife gatherings.

BLONDES
Zach Steinman and Sam Haar started Blondes as a way to fill the Oberlin College atmosphere with minimalistic analog electro set to untamed dancegrooves. XLR8R predicts, "With a spacey aesthetic and a loose, analog techno sound, their forthcoming EP on Merok will certainly be a hot commodity when it drops in the months ahead."

Hand-picked from the throbbing Dublin scene, Annie MacManus’ enthusiasm for dance music earned her a position heading publicity at the notorious Shine club, polishing her turntablism skills all the while. She eventually found herself on a number of London’s dance radio stations, and finally rocking a worldwide crowd on BBC’s Radio One. Her selection and hosting skills are featured on Annie Mac’s Mash Up, at the high-traffic Friday 7pm slot, as well as the Sunday evening BBC Switch show. The British press coyly praises her DJ sets as “rather hectic,” filled with high-octane revelry and slick moves, packing out venues like Fabric, Moles and numerous universities.

ZOMBI
Known to the rock and roll community as Relapse Records’ prog-tronica wildcard, Zombi are the culmination of dense, intricately constructed synths and strings over intense polyrhythms. For just a duo, consisting of Steve Moore on keys and bass and Anthony E. Paterra on drums, they produce an immense sound that summons the furthest extremes of their roots metal, no-wave and electronic scenes. They have hit the stage alongside a diverse array of intelligent music purveyors including Don Caballero, Isis, The Psychic Paramount and Trans Am. Their third album Spirit Animal has been noted as their piece de resistance, of which The Needle Drop remarked, “Nothing is worse than great ideas presented badly, and this album clears that hurdle with ease.”

Alexis Georgopoulos (American, b. 1974) is a composer and artist based in New York City. As ARP, he makes hypnogogic, minimal music, most often with analog synthesizers and, increasingly, classical stringed instruments. Since 2002, he has performed internationally and has been presented in such spaces as PS1, Deitch Projects, MOMA (SF), 303 Gallery, Luggage Store Gallery, Jack Hanley Gallery, New Langton Arts, Yerba Buena Center and Frieze Art Fair. He has released work on DFA, Smalltown Supersound, Troubleman Unlimited, Rong, Eskimo, Lo, Root Strata, White Columns & Deitch Projects labels. He has remixed Lawrence Wiener, Lindstrom and Shocking Pinks and has been remixed by Hot Chip, Munk, Optimo and Soft Pink Truth. He is also a member of the groups Q&A (DFA), The ALPS (Type/Mexican Summer) and founded the group Tussle, which he departed in 2007. ARP has also been the in-house sound artist for the REPLICA exhibit at the New Museum.
